I get the following message printed on my screan: "windows is preparing to
stand by" The computer locks up when i get this message. The mouse is
frozen and pressing "esc" or "ctrl/alt/delete" or any key does not help.
This always happens when i am away from the computer for about 30 minutes. I
always have to shut the computer down and restart it. How can i fix this.
This problem just started happening about 5 days ago and i don't know why.

Go to control panel, power options and set the System standby option to
never.

In the Microsoft Knowledge database there are listed several
causes for this, it could be a USB mouse issue - Too long to
detail, click link for further info:

It seems that when "preparing to standby" you may have too
many apps running?
My advice...............
Disable the standby option!
GoTo: Start/Settings/Control Panel
Click on "Power Options"
Click the "Power Schemes" tab
In the drop-down menu for "System Standby" select: "Never"
Click "Apply" button followed by "OK"
Close all windows and Reboot.
Your PC will no longer attempt to go into standby.
