Stale data in Windows Explorer?

B

Bill Cohagan

I'm running winXP Pro, SP2.

Lately I've been experiencing a problem with stale data in Windows Explorer.
I'm browing a folder across a LAN and change its contents (by renaming a
file or deleting a file, or pasting a file...), but the display doesn't
reflect the change. So, if I want to add a new folder I right click in the
WE window and select new folder. This creates a new folder named [New
Folder], but no such folder appears in the window, even if I scroll down to
the bottom of the listed files.

Now in all cases I can hit f5 to refresh the window and everything is then
OK. Absent that however it's just an out of date view of the folder in
question. This appears to be a recent problem; i.e., I've been using this
system for a long time without seeing such a problem.

So, how can I fix this? It's causing me major headaches.

Regards,
Bill

'across a LAN' my system works the same way. I suppose I could write some TSR
to 'stay alive' so to speak, but a manual refresh is probably a lot easier.
