when i try to connect to the internet, I am directed to a warning about
removing spyware - spywarewarning.mht.
I cannot access the internet - only this site. I ran windows defender,
which detected but only deleted two of many files. I also am running Norton
Anti-virus. OS is XP. How can I get rid of this spyware?

Hello A.J.

Consider restarting in safe mode, and doing a full scan with your antivirus
updated, again, a full scan with Windows Defender and any other tools in your
box. You can add SUPERAntiSpyware to you tool box.

Doing the work in safe mode will give the tools a better chance at cleaning.

You can also call 1-866-pcsafety for help with this issue in the U.S. or
Canada. If you are elsewhere in the world, call the local number for paid
Microsoft support, and ask for the free support for virus or spyware or
security patch related issues.

Once your PC is infected with a computer virus or worm, your computer
becomes compromised and nothing less than a reinstallation of the operating
system is going to work.

Yes, you can scan and eliminate the initial virus, but you generally cannot
undo the damage caused by the virus to the system files.

You'll need to reformat your hard drive and then reinstall your Windows
operating system.

I am grateful for your response in trying to help me. Thank you. I started
up my computer in safe mode and ran Norton Anti-Virus and Windows defender.
Neither showed any issues, yet me spyware issue remains. When I try to go to
the internet, I am directed to spywarewarning.mht, and have no other options
but to open that sight or close it. Therefore, I have no internet access
from my home. I tried to load a spyware program from cd, but it wanted to go
to the internet to register and update - when it could not, installation
ceased. What do I do now? How do I remove the spyware? Additionally, once
I have my computer clean, how do I reload windows, as was suggested? I
bought the computer several years ago at Best Buy, and windows was loaded on
it, without an installation cd. I remember after removing a previous virus
years ago that I found and reinstalled - it was on a drive, but I do not
remember how I accessed it.

A.J - you have an issue which is eligible for free support directly from
Microsoft by phone.

If you are in the U.S. or Canada, call 1-866-pcsafety.

If you are elsewhere, call the local number for paid support from Microsoft
and ask for the free support for virus, spyware, or security-patch related
issues. The call may not be free, but the help will be.

also try going into safe mode with networking
see if you can go to the internet this way
maybe that site will not load being in safemode
then go to superantispyware.com and download the software. You might have
to go into reg mode to install it but you can get its updates. Once you get
its updates re go into safe mode but do not do it with networking.
Run a complete scan and see if it picks it up.
