I have a folder named SVOTSLG5 which is located at :-
C:\documents and setings\user 1\local settings\temporary
internet files\content.IE5
but it is invisible when i search for it - the only way i
can get to it is by searching for it and the computer
then comes up with a shortuct to it - into it goes over
100 items per day - which i cannot open - the items
usually are wbk.tmp in format and have size varying from
zero KB to 60KB - the folder cannot be deleted because i
cannot find it - but the files in it can be deleted

These are Temporary Internet Files. The .tmp extension, may be that you're opening WBK files (Works spreadsheet?) from as an attachment to an e-mail, rather than saving it to your hard drive first, then opening it from there.

In Windows Explorer, right click on your hard drive, select Properties. On the General tab click Disk Cleanup and run the wizard. You may want to see www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm, Line 48, right column, Disk Cleanup - Compress Old Files Freezes. This REG file will remove the entry in the Registy that tells Disk Cleanup to process old files, and compress them, to save space, if desired. This step can take a long time to complete, and it doesn't hurt anything to prevent it from running. Save the REG file to your hard drive and double click the file. Answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad to see the changes they make.
