I got tricked by spyware, and now having problems with my computer. They got me by claiming to be microsoft and asking if I wanted to stop pop up adds and spam, so naturally I said yes. I figured out it wasn't legit when a "hotbars" tool bar installed. I ran a spy sweep program, and went back to a restore point.

But now my uninstall program won't work, and everytime I open outlook an error message comes up.........."The add in C:\progra 1\Hotbar\bin\446 1.01\SBOLExt.dll could not be installed or loaded. This problem may be resolved by using detect and repair on Help. May be out of memory, out of system resources, or missing a .dll file"

Can some one please tell me how to get my computer back to normal, I would surely appreciate the help

Also, I use Zonelabs free antivirus program, telus antivirus program and firewall, and I think I have everything running with Windows XP, so why wasn't I alerted that this was spyware? And should I otherwise be protected with all this running
Thank

This spyware was installed through internet explorer so your firewall figured that you wanted it so it wasn't stoped, and anti-virus software is for viruses not spyware,(despite what they may market)
Go to www.spywareinfo.com click on the software link then "view all catagorys" download Ad-aware, spybot S&D
cool web shedder ( CWS) and a must have is "spywareblaster" install them all, one at a time update them and let each one scan your system once your system is clean spywareblaster will help to prevent this in the future. Also there are other downloads there if you are interested in them
Good luck

Adding to the above, you may gone back to a Restore Point which, in fact,
contained the junk you just got rid removed. ANY time you delete spyware,
add ware, hijackers, etc, promptly delete all existing Restore Points and,
in turn, create a new one. If not the Restore Point, then you promptly went
back on the Internet and picked it up again. To avoid much of this stuff,
you are going to have to have an upfront preventive tool running such as
WebRoot Spy Sweeper or Add-Aware Plus [neither is free]. Even then, a few
will still penetrate your system.

Greetings --

To deal with issues caused by any sort of "adware" and/or
"spyware,"such as Gator, Comet Cursors, Smiley Central, Xupiter,
Bonzai Buddy, or KaZaA, and their remnants, that you've deliberately
(but without understanding the consequences) installed, two products
that are quite effective (at finding and removing this type of
scumware) are Ad-Aware from www.lavasoft.de and SpyBot Search &
Destroy from www.safer-networking.org/. Both have free versions.
It's even possible to use SpyBot Search & Destroy to "immunize" your
system against most future intrusions. I use both and generally
perform manual scans every week or so to clean out cookies, etc.

Additionally, manual removal instructions for the most common
varieties of scumware are available here:
