spyware ignores threat although i say remove

This software only worked correctly the first time i used
it. since then, whenever i do a scan and select to have
the threats removed, it goes through the entire process
of deleting the files. however, when i go to the scan
summary, it says that i ignored the threats, and needless
to say, i'm still bombarded w/annoying popups. also, when
i try to permanently delete quarantined threats, it
doesn't work. someone please help!! i'm almost ready to
junk the computer altogether.

Give this a shot ... open Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.
Locate Microsoft Antispyware and click on it once. Now click the Change
button, click Next, choose the Update option. Hopefully, this will
restore MSAS to it's proper working condition.

Which Antivirus program and/or Security suites are installed on the system ?
