Anyone know how I can get the spyware definitions manually?
I have a friends computer and do not have a way to connect
it to the internet to get the updates automatically. I
only have a network connection (IP Phone System) and no
NIC in the pc only standard 56k modem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Regards,

I don't think that's possible in this beta version of the product.

You can re-download the product. The binary at the download site has
historically been updated periodically with new definitions (i.e. the
software hasn't change versions but the incorporated definitions have been
updated) The definition version number is stated in the text at the
download site, so you can tell whether it has been updated.

That said, the current download is still at 5687, which is quite a distance
back, I'm afraid.

This KB article shows the particular files involved in the definitions:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;892519

What I have not tested, nor have I heard from anyone who has--is whether
moving these files manually in some fashion results in a properly updates
system.

Open MS spyware, top left corner: click on File with mouse

then Check for updates will pop up, click on it for
updating to start.
