Hi All
A friend of mine recommended spybot as a good tool to have, any opinions on
this? Is it free, is it easy to install/uninstall, any problems?

Spybot S&D is an essential spyware removal tool, and thoroughly
recommended. See:

It is free, and easy to (un)install. There is an easy mode (for newbies)
and an advanced mode which gives a wider choice of configuration settings
for more experienced users. Reported problems are few, and mainly tend to
involve an apparent tendency of Spybot to 'hang' when scanning for the LOP
parasite (this is addressed in the Help file). Some users find the sheer
variety of configuration options a bit difficult to understand. Finally,
some regular users tend to suffer withdrawal symptoms when there are no
reference file updates for a while ;-).

It is best used as part of an anti-parasite protection system that also
includes Ad-aware 6, CWShredder and SpywareBlaster plus a personal
firewall, if you are using a MS Windows system. For more about this, see:

You mean you don't already have it installed?
I thought everybody used it. Definitely use it. You'll wonder how you
did without. Also get Spyware Blaster.

Works great. Only one teeny teeny problem. At times downloading updates
dont always work right.....

I've found this is due to using t5he wrong mirror; if the mirror you've
chosen does not respond the program appears to....well does, hang.

Too late to try another mirror then, close it the brutal way, select
another mirror and try again.

I should charge for this advice, the amount of hair I tore out before
finding out about it... the support sites and forums flame you as a troll
even for asking, but the hint that it was simple and obvious finally
cracked it
