Spybot in System Restore files

Question from my father in law - I don't know the answer.

He believe that he has the spybot virus in his XP Pro
files on his laptop. Can we scan them to get rid of the
virus, assuming we download the correct patch for his
virus scanning software (Macafe)? If so, how?

Thanks,

Greg

Mixing apples and oranges. Not sure what evidence your father in law has
to suggest this diagnosis given that he feels the virus scanner is not
up to date.

Recommendations:
1. Update with newest virus definitions from McAfee and scan the
machine. Identify exactly which virus it is. Follow McAfee's advice
for how to deal with it.
2. Get a spy bot detection software ... lots available, e.g. Ad-aware
from Lavasoft. Scan machine for spybots (different than virues).
3. Ensure your father in law has some sort of firewall runninng.
