spybot error message in german ???
just got 2 of these in a row.

---------------------------------------------------
error during check
ISearchTech.ISTbar (Zugriffsverletzung bei Adresse 005FD5D2 in Modul
'SPYBOTSD.EXE' Lesen von Adresse (something)

error during check
Wild Media (Zugriffsverletzung bei Adresse 005FD5D2 in Modul
'SPYBOTSD.EXE' Lesen von Adresse (something)
---------------------------------------------------

They aren't flagged as malware found, but rather seem to
be an error in the spybot program itself. Each one
is preceeded by a graphic of an upright red triangle
with an exclamation point in it.

I've run all the other usual suspects: Hijack This
adaware, avg a2 several others and nothing else picks up on
anything. No new software installed recently.
Win 98.

Nothing found on this stuff in google groups and plain
ol' google has lots of reported occurances on this
but nobody has a clue what might cause it. Some people
mention it might be a "resource" problem, but nothing
further.

Any ideas???

I'm sure I remember a problem similar to this a few months back while
Spybot S&Ding a malware-infested Virtual PC for testing purposes.

Using Sysinternals' RegMon program I found that a registry key had
incorrect security permissions, which were denying me access to a
particular key. This was causing S&D's error which may have been what
you're experiencing.

http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Regmon.html

Run this while S&D is at it, but set the filter to "Log Errors" only and
see what you can find. You could also use the Contact page of S&D's web
site to report the problem, see what they have to say. In my experience you
may have to wait a while for a response, but you will get one :)

Cheers

I have never seen this message until today (Aug 16). I downloaded the
update which was available on Aug 16, ran Immunize, then executed the
Search and Destroy function. The "Lesen von Adresse..." (read from
address...) message was immediately displayed.

After I shut down Spybot and re-executed the Search and Destroy
function, it ran successfully to completion (no threats found) and the
error message did not reappear.

The following may be unrelated, but I'll mention it anyway. Beginning
about 2 weeks ago, at logon the red shield is displayed in the Taskbar
and its balloon warning claims that the antivirus program (Norton) is
turned off, which it shouldn't be. When I bring up Windows Security
Center, Virus Protection is in the OFF state. However without further
action by me, it reverts to ON and the red shield simultaneously
disappears. Maybe it's just a little slow to turn on Norton Antivirus,
but I've never seen that happen before.

I've seen similar behaviour with Windows not recognising Norton Internet
Security's (spit) firewall being active, then it realises it is, and goes
away. I believe it's down to the Windows Security Center not being patient
enough for responses to it's queries, or trying to check the state of the
firewall/anti-virus before they've got a chance to start up.

I can understand this on a 500MHz PC with Windows XP, but have even had it
on a P4 2.8GHz machine as well :) I'm sure in a few years time it'll work
alright...
