Spreadsheet not visible when opened

I have a large (2.5 Mb) spreadsheet that is not visible on the desktop when I
open it. When I try to open it again, Excel pops up a message indicating
that it is already open. I assume that something in the file has been
corrupted. Does anyone know how to repair such a problem?
