Spreadsheet and pie chart disagree

I'm using PP2007. On one pie chart, which unfortunately I have copied (and
modified) many times within the presentation, shows 39% in the spreadsheet
data view but 25% on the relevant pie chart slice. Three of us have now
noodled over this, on a client deadline of course, and manually changed the
data label as a workaround. But we'd like to solve the underlying problem.
Any ideas, folks?

Try deleting the data labels and then adding them back.

(If you manually type into a data label, it no longer updates. I suspect
that's what's happened.)
