Spontanious shut down from download.

After downloading a file from Ares the music peer to peer file my computer
shut down and continued to do so evey time i switched on after a while i
reilized that it was coming from my internet conection and proceded to
disconect from the internet and the computer stayed on. After deleting
everything to do with Ares i tried to connect again but with no joy it still
shut down being frustrated i deleted my whole file and started a fresh but
now i cannot get access to the internet through the Internet Explorer Icon as
it just comes up Internet properties. I have tried new home pages and old
but no joy , i know that the internet is working because i am on it right now
but got here through other sorces of help pages. Please Please can someone
help i am at my wits end with this.

Enable the firewall as well. Open the network connection from the control
panel, right click on it, and on the advanced tab enable the firewall.
