spontaneous restart on dial-up

When ever I try to dial an internet connection my computer spontaneously
restarts. I have tried disabling automatic restart but I still do not get the
BSOD. My computer worked fine for over a year and then this problem suddently
started occuring. I have not added any new programs or hardware.

This could be spyware or a virus. I suggest scanning the computer (
freeware: spybot - search & destroy

Could be a fried modem.
