Spontaneous rebooting before Windows XP can load

Hi Folks,
I have two machines, one a PC with XP Home and another a laptop with XP Pro
both which suffer from the above problem.
I have tried everything I can think of but to no avail.
1 In the case of the PC I finally managed to fomat the HDD and repartition
it using Partition Magic floppy discs then reinstalled Win XP. It booted up
ok started loading the O/S then a blue screen with problem detected
shutting down ect.....but also message;
IRQL_NOT_LES_OR_EQUAL. Any ideas?

2 In the case of the laptop I formated and reistalled the O/S but cannot
register it with MS as it is an OEM instal disc. Will it die on me in 28 more
days?

Here are a couple of links to look at.

0x0000000A: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Windows XP logon screen does not appear and the computer continuously
restarts

Yes if you can't activate it, then it will only allow a safe mode boot
after 30 days. What kind of OEM disk is it - retail OEM or a branded one?

Hey Rock that was a lightning quick reply!
O/S disc came with the new laptop labeled "Hi-Grade" which is the maker of
the machine, supposing this makes it a branded one.
Many thanks.

I recently wiped a HP laptop, then using the HP restore CD, restored the
entire HD which included a fresh XP. It said nothing about activation ever.

That may in part be because it's BIOS-locked, and doesn't use the
change-monitoring approach to triggering the DoS payload.

Change the motherboard to a different one, and you're dead. This
matters less on laptops and proprietary PCs if these trap you into
using such parts from a single vendor anyway.
