Splitting .wav files?

I generated 500Mb+ wav files (no splits) from old LP records, since the
track detecting did not work well using Easy CD Spin Doctor on a Win98
m/c . I would like to split these files into tracks sitting at my XP
m/c, then burn to CD. I have Nero CD burning software bundled on this
MCE m/c.

Splitting files (and then re-comnbining them successfully) can be a pain.

Why not just convert to some compressed audio format, like MP3 or MP4.
Those would be much smaller, and can be burned to CD either as is, or after
(automatic) conversion to music CD format by Nero or Easy CD.

A freeware program called "AUDACITY" can convert WAV to MP3:

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Note that AUDACITY also has some abilities to edit music files.

I downloaded CD Wave and found it to be very easy to use. I "de-popped"
the LP using Easy CD Creator to create two .wav files on the Win98 m/c
since when I tried to install it on the XP m/c a pop-up told me there
were issues with version 4 and XP. I burnt these files to a CD-RW then
carried this CD to the XP m/c, read them to HD, loaded CD Wave and it
was simple from there. I have a number of LPs I would like to digitize
to CD so I may pay the $15 for the shareware.
Thanks for the help, Dick
