Split database

I have split my data base and created a mde file. However i am limited to
getting into the database if someone else is in it. I have verified that my
tools/options/advance setting is to shared. Any ideas?

Typically in this arrangement each user will have their own copy of the
frontend (usually .mde), all linked to the same shared backend (a .mdb, since
a database with no code gets no benefit from being compiled into a .mde). Is
this your arrangement? Are you getting an error on linking to the backend?
What specific error? What version of Access are you using?
