I have XP and am using outlook express but the spellchecker is not active. Says I need Word, Exel,or Powerpoint to work. Well I have Wordperfect 10 and Quartto Pro 10. Stuff came with the computer and this is a work one so I'm not looking to buy Word 2000 or Microsoft Office. I just need to make the spell checker active. Thanks for any help.

There are programs that can be acquired off the web ( free and licensed )
that will work with Outlook Express to allow spellchecker. A goggle search
will find them. Jym

Choose what fits you best.

Spell Checking does not work in OE:

And:

An error occurred while the spelling was being checked or: Spell Check was
halted:

OE 6 does not come with it's own spell check. These are some free spell
check downloads.

Greetings --

Outlook Express, as you're apparently just discovering, has never
had any spell-checking capabilities of its own. Instead, it relies
upon the presence of certain specific other Microsoft applications,
such as the Office Suite, Word, or the Works _Suite_ (which includes
Word, not the regular Works). There are also some 3rd-party
shareware/freeware solutions available at any of the many shareware
sites on the Internet

Spell Magic seems well thought-of, though I haven't tried it myself:
