spellcheck error - Word 2007

I recently installed Office 2007 on my computer and am running word. I run
the spell check during my session and it works fine. I then save and exit.
The problem exists when I re-open the file to continue working on it, in
which all the spell check fixes are not fixed anymore. The file I am working
with is extremely long and it is getting to be a pain having to spell check
the entire file every time I open it. Any suggestions?
 
"The spell check fixes are not fixed anymore" -- are these actual fixes (i.e.
"errer" replaced with "error" but showing up after save/reopen as "errer"
again?)

or were they misspelled words marked "Ignore" but then they show up
misspelled again when you reopen the file?
