Spell check

After editing a document and clicking on the spell check, the entire document
is spell checked - even if it has been spell checked before. How do I change
the spell checker, universally, so that it doesn't spell check the entire
edited document, just the new material added?

Thanks for your interest in assisting me, however, your advice didn't
register on the site....at least I can't see it. Could you please repost?

Thanks.

Either select the text you want spell checking before running spell check,
or turn on the automatic spell checking as you type.

Graham - Thanks. I'm thoroughly confused now. I was told in the past that by
turning on the spell checker to check as I type was exactly what I didn't
want to do. In all previous versions of Word that I've used I have never
encountered this problem before; as a long-time Word user I am having a lot
of difficulty transitioning to this version...I don't see a great deal of
improvement over the last version...in fact, I find it a lot less
user-friendly - the spell checker being a major pain.

I'll do as you suggest and carry on (no doubt bitchin' and moanin' all the
way!)

Thanks.

I don't know in what context you were advised to turn off automatic spell
checking as you type - but it does exactly what it says on the tin. What
should ideally be turned off is automatic language detection, as that can
and usually does make wrong assumptions about the language. Suzanne's web
page http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/MasterSpellCheck.htm covers all the
usual issues relating to spell checking in Word 2007.

Word 2007 has a steep learning curve for those thoroughly grounded in
earlier versions as you are not the first tp observe, but like all other new
software, you get used to it with practice.
