spell check turns off

Hi--daughter and i both use Office XP/Word 2002-somehow
spell/grammar check has been turned off in a doc she sent
me(seems to be when she imported text from an old doc
where this had happened and i fixed some months ago)--i am
clearly forgetting a step in the "fix" process this time-
i go to tools/language/set language and i find the "do not
check spelling and grammer box" checked for some reason--i
uncheck it (but i think there is another operation to
perform here)-i then go back and spell check seems to
function on new text i type, but them "revets" back to no
spell check when i click on previously written text, etc
(i find the "no spell..." box checked again--driving me a
bit wild- i am clearly missing something here (like
somehow "checking" the "abc checkmark" thing in front of
the English language line or..)--any ideas on 1) how to
fix this correctly and 2) why it happens so she can
prevent it--many thanks (and i'll write it all down this
time-i promise :) )---ji

Hey, Jim. :)

1. Ctrl+A then set the language
2. Tools-options, Spelling and grammer, click on "recheck document" if it's
available.

A--many thanks--sounds like a plan--it will "select all" when i correct the settings-suspect i was just changing setting in part of doc i was typing/editing and they "reverted" when i went to older material--thanks---jim

You are welcome. Yes, the settings only apply to selected text, not to an
entire document or the system.
