remove French spelling and grammer check?

I am all of a sudden getting French spelling and grammer check when opening
and changing a document. I want only English spelling and grammer check. Is
there a way to turn this off. I have looked under tools - Language - set
language and it is set to English - US. Does anyone know how to get this off.

My copy of Word 2003 has been switching between Spanish and Frenc
(when I want US English) for the past several days. I keep resettin
the default, and the default keeps resetting itself!

In a different forum, someone told me to turn off "Detect languag
automatically" under Tools \ Language. So I had that turned off for
long time. Today I decided to turn it back on and, so far, US Englis
has held as the default.

So if your is off, try turning it on. Who knows? It just might work!

Incidentally, the helpdesk swapped out my old computer yesterday for
newer one, and that had absolutely nothing to do with the problem. Jus
in case you were thinking of throwing your 'puter out the window!
