spell check not working in some parts of a document?

I have a document in which spell check only works in some parts of the
document such as headrs and footers but not in the main text.
Why is this and how can I make spell check active for the complete document?

The language is English UK...but even when I select all and change the
language to English US still only the haeders and footers (which are also
English UK) are checked

Position the insertion point in some text that's not being checked, then
look in Tools/Options/Set language whether the checkbox to not check
spelling or grammar is activated. If so, go back and SELECT all the text,
then deactivate this option.
