I sent an e-mail this morning and misspelled a word. I went to click "change"
and hit "add" Can this be undone or am I forever doomed to misspell this word?

It's Vista windows mail

Thanks for any help or directions.

Open this file in Notepad and edit it:
C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\UserDictionary.lex

I'd read that and I can't find that file! I've been looking. I'm new to
Vista, about two weeks and so far, it ain't purdy. I can't "find" anything. I
can even find "userdictionary" or "appdata" using search. Under users I have
my name and folders for documents, contacts and such. But it looks like I
can't see my hidden folders or something. I don't know.

'AppData' is a 'hidden' folder

In the explorer window
Organize
Folder and search options
View Tab
Files and Folders
Hidden Files and folders
set the bullet for 'show hidden files and folders'

You should then be able to navigate to the lex file. Open it in notepad and
edit it (is a simple text file).

Personally I would change the show hidden files and folders back but many
people leave it set.

I do to, but one should hesitate if considering adding more Folders
to the Search indexing process since it can be detrimental to performance.

Hi Ann,

Yes. The changes can be easily undone, just by editing the custom dictionary file, which is in plain-text format. See:

How to remove misspelled words from the custom dictionary in Windows Mail:
