Thanks to both "Rick Nutcase Rogers" and "PA Bear" for their great suggestions. I have tried "Ricks" suggestion to copy the csapi3t1.dll into the \microsoft shared\proof file location, but I still have the problem. I will now try" PA Bear's" suggestion of deleteing the file and reloading from the program CD. Unfortunately the WinXP was not supplied with my machine when I purchased it from Gateway, so can anyone confirm that the csapi3t1.dll can be loaded from a new WinXP CD or will I need a new Microsoft works suite CD, to reloa

Thanks again for your hel

Huh? I suggested deleting what file and reloading it from the program CD?

Again, see OE Help>Spelling:

<paste>
Outlook Express uses the spelling checker provided with the following
Microsoft Office programs: Microsoft Word [usually included with MS Works],
Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint. If you do not have one of these
programs installed, the Spelling command is not available.
</paste>

Do you have any of these programs installed? If not you could try one of
these:

$15 shareware: http://www.spellchecker.com/

Plus some users will need to place a copy of csapi3t1.dll in the OE Program
folder, usually C:\Programs\Outlook Express.

You did NOT read everything at

[If you have trouble expanding the file.

PA Bear,
You referred me in your first response to OE Spellcheck Fix
www.michaelstevenstech.com, which refers to deleteing and reloading the
csapi3t1.dll from the WinXP cd. This I do not have. I have WinXP loaded
on my PC and spell check works fine in Word, but not in OE. I do not
have the WinXP CD
I guess I will just purchase a new copy of WinXP
