spell check does not work on a merged document

Spell check is not working on a document that originated from an Excel file.
It is a merged document that is quite large and all the information in the
Word document is from Excel. Has anyone had this problem and if so, do you
have a solution?

By default, the result of a mail merge field is set to not check spelling.

In the mail merge result document:
- Ctrl+A
- Tools/Language/Set language
- Select the language with which you want to spell check the document
- F7 to execute the spell check
