Speedup audio

Is there a freeware program that allows you to play audio files (esp mp3s)
at a faster speed? I have some podcasts that have a little content -- so i
cant skip them entirely -- but minutes of mindless drivel that i would like
to race through. Anything available that can cut down on listening time
without distorting the sound too badly?

9 will play some video types at 0.5-2x speed with transformed audio
it does mp3 but not wav
there is usually a little distortion

Gosh do I feel stupid for not seeing Audacity's or Media Player's controls.
Best Practice also looks interesting.

Thanks all.
