Ken

I just got a new computer from Dell with 512 Mb of RAM and
a Pentium 4 with Windows XP professional. When it first
started up, it was way slower than my other computer with
Windows 98 with barely any RAM. What are ways I can speed
up the computer in general.

Give it a week or two it takes a while to layout the hard
drive to it's liking. Any time you re-install the OS it
will act real slow the first week. If too much is starting
you can disable some of the programs.

Start> Run> type "Msconfig" ,OK. On the System
Configuration goto the startup tab, uncheck what you don't
want starting. Apply> OK. Next time you re-boot you'll
get a warning, check the box and ok.

Why is my computer running so slow, it used to be much faster?

At least read and try to comprehend the posts you reply to, Chris.

*IT'S* *A* *BRAND* *NEW* *COMPUTER*! It never used to be faster!

Windows XP run slower then Windows 98 according to the post. The subject
still stands that the first PC is faster than the new one. Nice shot, try
again.

Where do you see where you acknowledge the existence of 2 different
computers with different OS's?

You can't comprehend what you even wrote, nor do you comprehend that
this brand new Dell with XP seemed slower than an older different
computer with 98 to the OP.

Stupid shot, quit while you still have some self-esteem left!

But its time for me two more now.

Obviously, because you are in absolutely no position to rationally
defend yourself.
