speech wavs play at too high a speed

Hi, sound events that are speech wavs play at too high a speed so they sound
like donald duck lol. As such they are unintelligible and annoying. I
thought this was just on AOL, but I just used a game software offline that
was doing the same thing. I am able to hear everything else just fine, and
manually choose a celebrity voice on aol and assign it to "you've got mail"
for instance it plays fine. I played another game and got stuttering speech.
No conflicts in device manager. I have Windows XP and ASUS motherboard and
Vinyl AC97 codec combo driver. This problem has existed since I updated my
computer hardware and op system.
Any solutions? Thanks!

Have you tried updating your sound card drivers?
