An article about how there is a serious bug in the speech recognition where
it can be hijacked and the PC can tell itself to delete files.

Can imagine saying "open email" and the drive formats itself or something.
Whilst it is a serious bug, I can't help but giggle at the possibilities of
this flaw :)

There is an (probably urban myth) old story of a company giving a
demonstration many years ago of its new voice recognition software to a
packed audience. Right at the start of the demo which was due to last a
couple hours, some jokers at the front of the audience shouted out the
following which the computer duly obeyed:

"Open command prompt"
"Format c:"
"Yes"

Yeah, that sounds like a lot of fun.

OTOH this back-coupling idea got me thinking about more productive ways to
utilize it. Like sound calibration.

Imagine you just bought a brand new 7+1 acoustic system and as soon as you
plug in all satellites/subwoofers/fronts, Windows would ask you to place
your mike where you'd usually be sitting enjoying the sound and then it
would start talking and singing to itself calibrating the system for your
unique room dimensions and environments...

Not exactly/necessarily speech recog but still would be nice, eh?
