Speakers for XP

For my new Dell computer running XP, my non-powered speaker donot work. Do I
need powered speakers or is it a setup issue?

Hi,

It might be a problem with the speakers itself. Try connecting an alternate set of speakers of
headphones to see if the sound is working fine on your machine.

Since the speakers are not powered have you tried plugging them into the
headphone socket instead of the line out?
