Speaker static from hard drive?

I get static coming out of my left speaker, and it seems to happen when the
hard drive is spinning. Is this common? This computer has a wireless network
card I added, so could the antenna be picking up some interference? I also
get some annoying sounds coming out of the speakers when a cell phone is
close by.
Thanks for any help.

It's sounds like the speaker is not shielded properly.

Some other things to check.
Make sure the speaker is as far away as possible from the PC.
Check the speaker wire to make sure it is not touching or crossing any other wire, especially a power cable.
The wireless network card should be installed in a slot as far away as possible from the sound card.
If available, try replacing the left speaker with another, similar speaker.
Upgrade to the latest sound card drivers.
Check the sound card manufacturer and speaker manufacturer websites for any known issues.

Ronnie-
Thanks for the reply. As it turns out it was the spekaers themselves (maybe
just that they were cheapo speakers, I guess). I connected a set of better
speakers I was using on another computer, and the static immediately went
away.
Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.
