speaker audio problems! help!

My Windows XP has been getting on my nerves for quite sometime now. My
computer recently had a crash and is now up and running again. Before the
crash my speakers worked perfect! Now, after the crash they don't work at
all! They are plugged in, yet my computer says there is no audio output
device connected when I go into the control panel! Also, when I plug
headphones into the headphone jack on my hard drive, there is no sound
either! Someone please help!

Check the CDs that came with your PC when you purchased it. You need
to install the drivers for your soundcard.

Did you try plugging the speakers or headphones in something other than
that particular machine to make sure they even work? If they do work
elsewhere try reinstalling any software/firmware that was provided with it.
