Spanish language character wrong

The accent in Spanish gives the incorrect slant. (El està corriendo.) The
spelling dictionary usually gives me the correct slant (¿Están Uds. listos?)
so I know that something in the input is incorrect.
I am using XP home and the language setting is Spanish International sort.

WinXP?

Does ALT+0225 give you the correct character (i.e., á)?

I am using English-language keybord. The XP is version 5.1 w/ sp2. It is
English.
I add the language to the keyboard settings and my word processor for
dictionary, etc. But the keyboard input is messed up for some reason.
I'm sorry, but I do not understand the ALT+0225.

The correct accent key you're looking for is the key for an apostrophe
on the English keyboard. The ñ is the key that is used for a semi colon
on the English keyboard.

With an English keyboard you should use the "US English International"
keyboard setting on XP, then you will have no problem to type any
accented character with the correct key.

Simply, to type the accented a, you should type the sequence 'a, to
type the umlaut u, you should type the sequence "u, etc. And to type
the apostrophe ' you should type '<space>.

Ok, these work. The only thing that is lacking is the ñ.
But I still would like to fix the accent on the spanish keyboard.

I tried the ALT+0225 and it gives me the á. But how about all the other
characters? Do I have to learn a bunch of alts to get by?
Is there no way to get the Spanish keyboard to work correctly?

If (1) ALT+0225 gives you the correct character, (2) the corresponding key
on your Spanish-language keyboard doesn't, and (3) you've added the correct
alternate keyboard layout (cf.

have to assume that the Spanish-language keyboard isn't compatible with your
English-language version of Windows.

If so, you have two choices:

1. Install a Spanish-language version of Windows and use the same keyboard;
or

2. Use an English-language keyboard with the Spanish-language Keyboard
Layout as a reference when you type, adding diacritics when necessary. See

Finally we got through! The link in (2) below gives the layout of the
keyboard. This is the first time that I have seen this layout, even with my
present copy of windows before this last install, what was always the accent
(I had never heard of grave and acute accents in spanish) was to the right of
the "p" key. Now it is the "grave" accent and the acute (which is the one
that we always use is at the ' position. See if old dogs can learn new
tricks.
