How do I insert a ~ over the n character? I thought it was some kind of key combination that did it but I can't remember what that is. Thanks,

Try it again, without the Caps Lock. Ctrl-Shift-`, then n (don't hold down
the shift key or ctrl key for the n).

After you press Ctrl+Shift+~, *let go of the Ctrl and Shift keys* before you
press the n key. That will give you the lower-case ñ character.

If you want the upper-case Ñ character, continue to hold the Shift key but
let go of the Ctrl key before you press the N key.
