Spam virus

Hi all,
I just found that my computer tries to send out internet email using my
account from time to time. The subject of the emails are quite random and
so are the emails of the receipents. I got a lot of undeliverable return
mails because of non-existing receipents.
Can anyone help? I check using the most updated virus definition of
norton...but find nothing.. How can I identify the virus?

Regards,
Dom

Probably a false assumption.
The subject of the emails are quite random and
so are the emails of the receipents.

Sometimes the subjects provide a clue as to which worm
is creating the messages ~ sometimes not.

mails because of non-existing receipents.

A worm may be using your e-mail address (not actually your account
or your computer) as a return address ~ it is called forging or spoofing
of e-mail addresses. The fact that you get returns from non-existing
addresses also makes it seem likely that spoofing is being used.

Sometimes it is a spammer that is using your e-mail address in this
manner, and not a worm at all. Do you know how to examine the
contents of the returned e-mails safely? If so, do they look like spam?

Maybe someone here will reccognize the subject lines? But, it
may very well be a waste of time seeing as *you* are probably
not the affected party.

Charles...
a rar file is a bit like a zip file except using winrar rather than winzip.
It contains data/compressed files etc

There are several decompressors or "unzippers" which will handle the
RAR as well as ZIP and other archiving methods. I use Power Archiver.
You need to un-rar the downloaded file.
