Matt

I have no idea which SHADY website I must have gone
through, but now when my Internet Explorer 6.0 starts up,
it has one of those fake homepages that I DIDN'T set
myself. (Search for free viagra! Kind of homepages.)
Ontop of that, there's nobody you can contact to get rid
of it. No matter how many times I reset my homepage, this
one comes up. I'm not going to stick a URL in here. The
last thing I want is for people to get the same problem
as me...

How do I get rid of this horrendous homepage problem?

You have a IE hijacker. PRetty common nowadays. You want to look into
CWShredder, Adaware, and a hijack detector that I cannot think of the name
at this moment.

Matt,

This is probably where they got your address since you have it in plain
view. The "miners" automatically go through Newsgroups like this and gleen
addresses.

You need to go to Tools/Accounts/Properties and change your email to
something like (e-mail address removed) that will throw them off a bit.
Or, some people put something like (e-mail address removed) in
their email address. It's not like you want someone to send you a private
message from this Newsgroup, huh?

First eliminate any scumware.
See
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each need to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.

With CWShredder and AdAware, I got rid of the homepage
problem, but the toolbar is still sitting there in the
list of available toolbars. Just stay the HELL away from
anything that resembles "V61.com" .

To get rid of this toolbar I'm considering formattnig
since I have a lot of crud on my computer anyway.

Try ToolbarCop:
