Loss of "General" tab

T

Tim

For several months, I haven't had a "General" tab in my
Internet Options menu. It hasn't caused a severe problem
until my homepage was randomly reset to tell me about
spyware, and all sorts of Porn popups keep coming. I've
run Ad-Aware 6.0 several times with no result. I'd like
to reset my homepage back to my own preference, and to get
rid of all of this unnecessary and unwanted information.

Restore Missing tabs. Download a fix from:
http://mvps.org/sramesh2k/reg/IE_reset_restrictions.reg

Also, refer Fix 268 from Kelly's site: [For Windows XP]
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Restore All tabs in IE and Removes the ** Internet Options ** Restrictions
as well

The problem may be due to:

1. A spyware. Download Ad-Aware from www.lavasoftusa.com, scan the system
and eliminate the malware products. Re-apply the above fix if necessary.
** Remember to update the pattern file using WebUpdate in Ad-Aware **

( Caused by a malware called CoolWebSearch. Also, Download:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip )

2. You have enabled the following options in SpyBot:
"Lock IE start page against user changes"
"Lock IE control panel against opening from within IE"

Ramesh,
2. You have enabled the following options in SpyBot:
FYI: SpyBot does not remove any "Tabs", it will however
give you the "Administrator message" if that option is enabled.
