Spam in guestbooks

Hi. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on how to deal with spam
posts in guestbooks. I have multiple web sites that are memorial pages for
murder victims and each morning I awake to a dozen or so of the guestbooks
being inundated with spam overnight. They are usually foreign IP numbers,
posting hundreds of messages with links to everything from online casinos,
prescription drugs to porn. No respect at all.

I try to keep up with it but it is exhausting! I have not had time to clean
them up for the past several weeks, and one guestbook was so overloaded with
spam it literally took a couple of hours to delete it because the page was
too big and responded extremely slowly.

I have finally figured out that changing the hyperlink text color to the
same color as the background at least hides their crap, but short of making
each message be reviewed before it goes online, is there anything I might
do? There are way too many pages to do that and have any semblance of a
real life...

Unless you can password protect the web, there isn't much you can do about
the spam.

Yes, that's what I thought. But I know FP does lots of stuff I don't know
about so I thought I would ask the experts! I was hoping for a way to block
IP ranges or something else miraculous like that.

IP ranges can be blocked on the remote server in IIS, or at the host's
firewall.
However, there are so many IP ranges, it would be virtually impossible to
keep up with them.
