Spam in guestbook

Margie

How can I keep spam out of my guestbook? I have to go in
regularly and manually delete the offensive entries. Is
there a way to prevent it?

There's nothing else you can do.

Hi Margie,

If you have your FP guestbook live and online..as Tom mentioned you cannot
directly prevent this.

About the only thing you can do is to use a Guestbook that requires
registration (which will cut down on some.. but not all)

Or possibly have entries emailed to you..and then you can filter them and
only post appropriate ones.

You cannot stop it, but changing the name of the guestbook from
guestbook.htm may cut it down for a while.

As far as I am aware, there is no effective technique available.

However, have you thought about ditching the guestbook altogether?
Does the guestbook really serve a useful purpose? Would a form do
instead?

That's what I did. I ditched the guestbook and got a Perl-scripted
form instead. Try here for a couple of well written ones...

The stock guestbook has no method of filtering out spam. You
would need to use a server side script of some type to
prevent it.

The script at the site below (written in PERL) may be help
if your host can work with it

I don't have the ability to use that, but I can use ASP
scripts on my host- I wrote a script to pull all of the gb
info and send me an email so I can check it. If it is OK
then I just post it to the db that contains my guestbook
entries. Currently 75% of my gb entries are spam, so I
delete alot of emails....
