Spacing in Pie Chart Legends

After making my first pie chart, with the pie at the left and the legend at
the right, I noticed the spacing in between each legend label was really
wide...like it was triple-spaced. So with eight items in the legend, it
would not fit on the screen.

I went through every option, and saw no way to tighten up the spacing
between the labels. Ended up converting the chart to a drawing, ungrouping
the legend, and doing the spacing manually. You can imagine how long that
took!

What did I miss here? Surely there must have been a parameter that would
have tightened thing up in two seconds!

If you click on the legend, a box around it will be highlighted. You can
drag the edge of the box to tighten the spacing between the entries.
