I know that it used to be bad practice to install SP packs as soon as they
were released, is this still the accepted norm or can microsoft be trusted
now. (tongue in cheek).

I would never rush out and install this on my most important production
server right away. Although we have no formal method for evaluating service
packs, what I tend to do is install it on my regular desktop first because
this gets the most use - I'll pick up problems here first. Then monitor
newsgroups such as this one to look for feedback - see if any people are
having problems with setups similar to mine. Then start on less-important
file servers. For servers such as Exchange, I'll do this on a test server
first.
