SP2 with dialup

When SP2 is released, does anyone know how MS will handle the download
for 'dialup' users? If it's over 200 MB's and I connect at only 8-9 MB's
per HOUR, connect time could be calculated in DAYS, rather than hours.

Would the update be interruptible, so that I could download it in
smaller chunks, over a period of several nights, rather than in one long
download?

For a dl of this size, I would even be willing to order a CD for a small
handling and shipping fee.

I don't need some know-it-all to suggest that I obtain a faster internet
connection. Before he makes a comment of this type, he should realize
that not everyone has access to high speed service by cable or phone
lines. My only other option is to spend thousands on installing a
satellite system, with a sizable monthly payment for service, and not
even a TV program to show for it. That would cost extra.

It will be available for free on CD starting about 8/25 for ordering.
Starting 8/16 an express install version will be available from the
windows update site. This will be about 80-120 mb depending on your
current installation and what patches you have already applied. To
order the CD use this link. It is not active yet but will be at the end
of the month.

You'll be able to order a cd in the next few weeks. Keep checking the ms
site.

One alternative is to meet a nice girl with a fast internet connection.

If you know anyone at all that has a high-speed connection, (even at their
work), you might be able to have them download the 266MB file and burn it to
a CD. I did that myself. Doing the ~80-120MB Windows Update version when
it's ready over dial-up sounds pretty painful as well.

If you do it from Windows Update, it will only download the parts that
are needed for *that* machine - around 100 MB give or take 20. And if
you disconnect, it the download will pick up again without any action on
your part, next time you connect.

That said, I would leave it and either order a CD - watch for orders
becoming available at
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp2/cdorder/en_us/default.mspx
or look for CDs through other channels - one mag in the UK is promising
it on a cover CD in its edition for 3 September

Thank you, Rock, Phil, Dick, PCyr, Jupiter, Gregg and Alex.

I will get the CD when it is released.
