Sp2 update solution

Some home users are having a difficult time receiving SP2 with WU, for a
variety of reasons. It could be that MS servers are running flat out and
can't give it to you today or any faster than you're getting it.

There is a different approach for you.
Go to the MS SP2 page at:
www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/maintain/winxpsp2.mspx
Choose the "Download and deploy SP2 for Multiple Computers". It's the same
Service Pac for all computers. This is the full SP2 and took 15 minutes to
download the 272,391kb file over my cable modem.
Once downloaded execute the file and it automatically installs on Pro and
Home.
The only action required is to accept the EULA and click next 2 or 3 times.
I then burned it to a CD and installed it on my other XP-Pro and 2 XP-Home
standalone computers. Worked like a charm. Straight forward and simple.
Reboot and you're good to go. The EXE file is the key for this upgrade, not
WU.

Windows Update doesn't do anything magical on the instal other than execute
the EXE file. The analysis of your system and the update is all handled from
within
the EXE file.

Thanks MS, great improvements.

I followed your advise and it worked like a charm. I only had to re-enable
the HTML setting in OE in order to view and send images.

Thanks bunches for your tip!

Hi "eeh",
I was going to download SP2(266Mb) from the microsoft
site and copy it to disc for install for myself and other
members of the family but when I look in add and remove I
see I have already got 6 Hotfixes installed all SP2
ie:KB810243,Q329256,Q322011,Q327979,Q814995 and
Q819696,my query is wil it make any difference or will
SP2 install over the top or will it cause a problem,
Thanks for any advice,
bert.

No need to worry - the installer will check what you have installed already
and won't install those hotfixes as part of the SP-2 install.
