SP2 slowing Photoshop 6.0 performance

After downloading Windows XP SP2 my Adobe Photoshop 6.0 is
excruciatingly slow. For example, there is about a ten
second lag when any tool is chosen, or any layer is
selected. Files take at least fifteen seconds to open.
Terrible! The problem was not immediate after the
download, but that's the only thing that's recently
changed on this computer. Is there a way to revert back to
SP1 or is there some other fixable thing that could cause
this? I've been to the Adobe site, but there doesn't seem
to be anything about this problem and SP2. I'm not very
computer savy, so any help you might offer would be
appreciated if it's dumbed down for me to understand.
Thanks for any suggestions. Sue

Do a basic cleanup: disk cleanup and then defrag. Delete the *contents
only* of C:\Windows\Prefetch - it will be rebuilt. Check start/run
command/msconfig, startup tab, and make sure that the startups are
needed. If you have any Norton/Symantec product, look for an update for
SP2.
