SP2 - right click and jpg

Hi,
Since installing SP2 i have noticed 2 problems:
1. When i right click on some files it takes ages to pop up the menu, the
hdd LED on my tower doesnt flash, so it doesnt indidicate the computer is
under stress.

2. When i open a jpg file it takes ages for the picture viewer to open, but
once its open i can navigate using the next button. But if i navigate to
another folder and double click on another image (with picture viewer open or
closed, does not matter) it takes ages to open again.

What is the cause of these problems? and how can i fix them??

Cheers

1. HDD LED is related to activity on Hard Drive. This is not controlled by
software and definitely not managed by any Opeerating System element. Don't
let this distract you from the real problem.

Speed of Pop-up menu can be improved if you change colour depth from High
24bit to 16bit.

2. Speed of applications opening and closing can relate to the Hard Drive
being fragmented, in conjunction with the available memory [RAM] as opposed
to the size of the swap file.

Try doing a defrag.

As an aside, some folks have Palm Pilots or other hand held connected via a
Sync Cradle: if the device is not connected and the Sync Software starts up
automatically [see Start> Programme Files> Start Up ], then it is constantly
polling the comms port [USB cable] to find that device and slows down your
PC. Remove this from your startup folder if it is there. Runb it manually.

Another possibility is that you have one of the viruses that links itself
to jpg files so that when you try and view the jpg by clicking on it
the virus program is activated.
