SP2 - Now Win Explorer crashes, lost email and addr book plus more

As soon as I click Windows Explorer it crashes (instruction 0x0203d065 at mem
0x00000000). Same result if I try to open a folder on the desktop. And my
outlook express address book is gone plus all email for most recent 18 months.

This follows installing XP Home SP2. Install seemed OK, and everything ran
for a few hours, then poof.

I can look at the C drive with Nero (also DOS) and hoped to find in
C:\windows\profiles\username\application data\microsoft\outlook express\data
there is no "username". Similar results under C:\program files\outlook
express\username\mail

Am I screwed? What are the chances that an uninstall of SP2 would make a
recovery? Why me Lord, and why now? (sorry but my sense of humor is a bit
stretched at the moment - no offense intended).

Any thoughts anyone?

Be careful if you decide to get Microsoft HELP. I started with a similar
problem and with Microsoft TECH-Support they messed up my E-Mail and my
stored E-mail and wiped out my software programs but I had saved my data. Now
some of my software will not install. I used there tech-support before and
know better but hope it would fix their screw up on the SP2 problem. NO LUCK.
Good luch in finding a solution to your problem. My final word is LINUX is
coming.

SORRY i CAN'T HELP

Thanks Frank. I'm seriously considering going out and buying a Mac, then
converting this box to Linux. A friend had me reboot and sign on as ADMIN
and search for .DBX and .WAB files. These showed up in a backup, and I
managed to use Nero to at least save them to CDR. Maybe I can dump them with
a hex-editor. I feel 90% better but there is still a long way to go. Thanks
for caring. Bob

I think you've got it right Ricky. It is at least a heck of a good place to
start. Many thanks.
