SP2 killed crossover cable connection

I recently installed SP2 on my laptops. Before I used my crossover cable all
the time. Now they can't ping each other. I have completely disabled the
firewall on both machines. I get a link light on both spots, but no pings.
I even changed cables to another known good crossover.

When I plug into a switch or hub, everything is fine!

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated

JD, I think I'm in the same boat . . . I struggle to get my crossover
connection established (I use IP 192.168.0.x and Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0;
everyone says just plug in the cable and go, but I've always had to set it up
manually), and it'll work for a while. But if I don't use it for a day or two
I can't connect. Oh, to be sure, the network lights flash and the
'connection' icon appears in the task bar, but I'm unable to access resources
on the other computer. I try to "repair" the connection (right click/repair)
but I get the message "Unable to reset DHCP or DNS settings" or something to
that effect. My question is: how did you even get the crossover connection to
work before SP2? I'm running XP Pro on both machines, one with SP2. Windows
firewall is disabled, but I'm using ZoneAlarm (with my network numbers in a
'trusted' zone). Hope to hear from you,

Paul

Still at a loss, the crossover is correctly pinned out with Pairs 2 & 3
reversed. It worked pre SP2, but not since. I turned off the firewalls, I
even get a link......

It should work just like plugging into a hub with no difference or
configuration what so ever......

What did SP2 do to my ability to use a crossover cable?

Check IP addresses.
