since i don't use internet exploder and use a fully
functioning firewall. all service pack 2 is just eye candy.
microsoft is trying to look like they care about internet
security but people are throwing away their firewalls for
the xp one ,thinking that xp firewall is better.

3 security holes so far. and another microsoft message to
corporations to download a script patch so sp2 doesn,'t
download and install.

Yes, SP2 is necessary. It contains many security-related fixes in addition
to those concerning Internet Explorer and the Windows Firewall, and it is
also required in order to apply any future critical updates that are
released.

And clearly people will find holes in it as time goes on. This
is usual. No software is perfect, but SP2 has better security
than SP1. Recall that in the past, a large fraction of the problems
caused by malware, viruses, etc. were caused by the fact
that some user or group of users had NOT updated their
software. This is one of the lessons of computer history, and
is the reason that SP2 is so annoyingly fixed on automatic
updates. If you are comfortable that your apps will work
on SP2, download(or update) it and install it.

Dale: Would you please be kind enough to provide a link to the
documentation supporting that statement?

Thanks,

If you don't install SP2 you put the rest of us at risk. You don't want to
do that.

We know about your cat's clumping problems.
