Not being a mind reader or able to see your screen from here, I'll pass on
knowing why your computer is broke.
I can however tell you that ActiveSync works as well as it ever has here,
running version 3.7.1 build 4034 on Windows SP2. ActiveSync has 2 entries in
my firewall exception list which you might check are there for you too,
after you've checked your version of Active Sync is up to date.
